The Steiger House Bed and Breakfast is located at 33 North Main Street in the
Historic District of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania.  The borough of Mercersburg was the
boyhood hometown of the 15th President of the United States of America, James
Buchanan.  Buchanan served one term as President and preceded Abraham Lincoln.
He was also the only bachelor to serve as President.

The Steiger House was originally constructed as a two family dwelling, and was built
by Jacob Hassler circa 1836.  The home was owned by several individuals between 1836
and 1880.  In 1880 it was purchased by George C. Steiger, a local business man.  The
residence remained in the Steiger family until acquired by Ron and Nancy Snyder in
1992.

The home has been refurbished throughout.  There are four guest quarters, all with
private baths and in-room phones.  WI-FI wireless internet access is available at no
charge.  A full breakfast for all guests is offered between 8:00 – 9:30 AM each morning.
Handmade and antique furnishings provide comfortable surroundings for our guest’s
enjoyment and relaxation.  Common rooms on the first floor are provided for reading,
watching TV or a movie on tape or DVD, and for friendly conversation with other guests.
Complimentary wine, tea or coffee is offered as well.  For business guests, Fax and
copying facilities are available.

There are several restaurants and eating establishments in Mercersburg available to
suit every taste.  The James Buchanan Pub and Restaurant and Flannery’s restaurant
are both only a short walk from our front door.  The Main Street Café, Romeo’s Pizza and
Al’s Pizza are also within walking distance.  Within driving distance are McDonalds,
Subway, Egg Roll King and Foot of the Mountain Restaurant, as well as Casey’s Bar and
Grill and the Antrim House, both in Greencastle.

Children seven years of age and older are welcome.  Sorry, but we are unable to
accept pets.
